As the weekend approached and the snow was showing no signs of stopping, we began to get a bit worried. The band had been booked to head up from London to Shropshire to perform at the wedding of Louise and Francis Collin in the beautiful Walcott Hall. We were as well-prepared as ever: all the travel arrangements were in place, we'd rehearsed the couple's requested first dance (Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher") and we were looking forward to playing a great set. However, against the weather, we feared we may not win the battle!
On 13th of December we entertained the students of University College London at their gloriously-decorated formal ball to mark the end of the winter term. As deadlines became a thing of the past (or at least something to forget over the Christmas holiday) everyone was in a party mood. We warmed the evening up with a short background jazz set, then as the lights were dimmed and the champagne was flowing, we turned on the dance tunes. Valerie (Amy Winehouse / Mark Ronson) was a particular favourite tune of the night.
Charlie Satow, the evening's organiser, said:
On 7th December we held a showcase gig at The Grafton in Kentish Town, and it turned out to be a very funky Christmas party indeed! We completely packed out the function room and it was full to capacity. Apparently our wonderfully enthusiastic audience almost broke the floorboards with all the dancing! If you came along, we'd like to say thank you for being such a fabulous crowd - you really got into the party mood and helped us dance the night away, producing one of the most sweaty rooms we've seen in a long time!
On the 4th December we descended into the atmospheric underground venue The Top Secret Comedy Club in London's Covent Garden to perform at the London Classics Ball. What a wild evening it was! Those Classicists certainly know how to party. With a hilarious set from a great stand-up comic before us, we played for just over an hour and the crowd was having so much fun they asked for not just one encore, but two! We had a fantastically fun evening.
Christmas is on the horizon and you're invited to a very funky Christmas party!
Come and be entertained by London's most soulful party band. For one night only we are hosting a night of great music in the private function room at The Grafton (in Kentish Town).
You can expect a fun evening of top entertainment and music to make you dance your socks off. Save the date now - you won't want to miss this! And please let us know you're coming on the Facebook event.
